How It All Began
by Dr. Milton K. Harkrader
The New Jersey Boxer Club is 65 years old, as of 2012. The New Jersey
Boxer Club was organized by eleven people during the summer of 1947.
They felt there was a need for a club that would provide an opportunity
for new dog fanciers to learn - and the more experienced fanciers to
continue to learn about the many facets of Boxers and dogs in general.
Three of the group were members of the American Boxer Club. For all intents and purposes, membership of the A.B.C. was a closed affair at that time. It was felt that the formation of a member club would provide many interested people with the privilege of entering the popular A.B.C. Futurity.
Organizers of the New Jersey Boxer Club were:
-
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Seaman of Perth Amboy
Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Lyons of Summit
Dr. and Mrs. Milton K. Harkrader of Westfield
Mr. Charles Meyer of Westfield
Mr. William Meyer of Westfield
Mr. John Moffet of Westfield
Mr. Jack Toomey of Basking Ridge
Mr. Bird of Basking Ridge
